Bloom Where You Are Planted

The French have a saying from the 15'th Century: "Fleuris là où tu es plantée", which means, "Bloom where you are planted". I have discovered that blooming has everything to do with trust and very little to do with belief. To become anything at all, the seed must trust. And so shall I.” In other words, we must take advantage of every opportunity that we are given to grow and shine. Here are some suggestions for blooming where you are planted:

1. Embrace the challenge.

Sometimes life gets hard. Life happens to the best of us. I don’t want to minimize what some people go through because, to be honest, there are some in this world that I feel get dealt a tough hand over and over again. If you’re in the midst of a difficult time, realize that it is only for a season. Time marches on. What is now probably will be different later. Situations change. Opportunities arise. Consider the ways that this current challenge may make you a better person. Focus on the positives instead of the negatives.

2. Stop complaining.

Please just stop. There are people who would be happy to be in our “tough” situation because even in our tough times we still have a roof over our heads, food, and clothing. So take the time to focus on what you do have instead of what you do not have.

3. Focus on others.

In times of challenge, it’s easy to give into what we see as a problem. It’s easy to bury ourselves inside our shell. However, that really isn’t the moment to do it. This is when it’s imperative that we turn outward. Focus on your family. Focus on the people around you. Focus on what you have and the positive people in your life.

4. Celebrate the small things.

When things are difficult, it’s easy to succumb to feelings of frustration, disappointment, or anger. It’s easy to point fingers and blame the situation and others for what we are dealing with. It’s easy to lose sight of everything else that’s happening in our lives. Don’t get lost! Find a way to celebrate the small things.

5. Visualize the future.

Close your eyes and “see” where you would like to be. Then develop a plan for how you are going to get there. Do not get stuck in the current situation, focus on what will be. Visualize what the future holds.

Over the past couple of months and years, it has been my pleasure walking beside women and helping them overcome their life challenges! More than that I have enjoyed the privilege of seeing them enjoy their victories! I want to do that with you too!
